Alright . . . we have said good-bye to April 2013, so now I shall blog about it!
April was pretty much all about potty training.
Even this awesome play date with our friends Max, Paloma, and Mama Anna happened after I said "please come over! I need to see how Everett will do with his potty training when he's distracted by friends!"
Of course, he did great. The potty thing clicked pretty fast. It was maybe a week before I would let him watch a TV show without wondering the whole time if he'd have an accident, but there weren't too many accidents after the first few days (needless to say, though, he didn't watch much TV that first week).
Now we're pretty much accident free in the daytime and he tells us quite often when he has to go (other times, we make him go before going out, watching a movie, taking a nap, etc.). But nighttime is a different story. He woke up wet so many times, we've switched to pull-ups at night. If he can't control it, he can't control it. We'll stop them when he can keep his pull-up dry.
Before I leave the potty topic, I need to share one gross/funny thing. A fact I need to remember to terrorize him with when he's a preteen. Everett likes to identify the images in his poop, like cloud gazing. He'll say "I made a worm" or "I made a circle" or "it's Lowly Worm with a hat on." Ha!

Lydia's a wonderful baby. She's still super easy going. Sleeps and eats and usually only fusses when she needs to sleep or eat.
She's been sleeping through the night most nights, which is wonderful. Now we just need to get Everett sleeping through every night and me sleeping through every night (of course, the nights they both sleep, I often have some sort of insomnia!). But Friday night I sleep great and last night was almost as good. Love these sleeping babies!!
Everett's still super good with her. He loves her and always wants to see her first thing in the morning or when he's been away. He can be a bit rough with her, so we always keep a close eye on them. And only one day, when he was super tired and in meltdown mode, did he say "we need to throw her away!"
Lydia has a crib now! Everett's crib was a hand-me-down that we got rid of a long time ago, so we made a special trip to IKEA to get hers (ok, we got a couple other things--some I'll talk about later). We're talking about moving her soon since she's sleeping so well, is so long she's almost outgrown the co-sleeper, and she's doing this above (scooching perpendicular and resting her feet on the rail).
We went disc golfing as a family for Brian's 30th birthday!! This was Lydia's first trip in the BOB (jogging stroller).
I've been having Everett draw on bunting triangles for decoration for his party. Right now he's scribbling, checking it out, then telling me what it is (so he's basically finding something in the scribble, if that makes sense). This is Thomas the blue engine with purple wheels. Pretty impressive, huh?!? He's also scribbled 3s and Ps and all sorts of other letters and numbers. His shapes are intentional, though. Mostly wonky circles and triangles.
On April 18th, the praying mantis egg my parents gave us hatched! Everett got to help release them into the yard.

Everett's first protest? Well, it was a rally. We rallied in support of Paso Teachers.
Lydia's getting stronger! She's actually "playing" with toys a bit too. Well, she (intentionally? accidentally?) grabs a toy (hanging from the baby gym) and watches as she holds it and moves it around.
On April 25th, I tried my best at a photoshoot to get pictures to send to Auntie Katie for her birthday. I was so glad my mom was there to help, especially with Everett.
He's sweet but full of energy. And not always the most cooperative guy.

I also wanted to mention all the work Brian has been doing around the house! He built two new planter boxes (the far ones) and has been doing a lot of planting. Plus tons of other yard work.
Some new plants here, including jasmine which we plan to grow up the wire fencing to cover the bathroom window. It took us a long time to figure out what to do to get more privacy.
Brian built a fence/gate! Once there's a lock, I'm going to feel so much safer! Well, I already feel safer, but a lock would be good. Before, kids could run around the back of the house, through the car port, and straight onto the street (luckily they never did!).
He also replaced two of our counter tops and added another cabinet (this is the IKEA stuff I was talking about). So cool to have a handy hubby!
One more thing. We had our first guest stay in our "guest suite!" Haha. Ben Ebert stayed here last night, and it was great! I love that our guests now have their own bathroom. It makes such a difference for everyone!
This is going to be a crazy/fun month. Everett's turning 3!!
