Ok, let's do this thing! My internet isn't working well, and I can't seem to pare down the one zillion pictures I have for this month, but the show must go on!
Lots of changes around here, especially for Lydia, because she's a baby and all.
She started by doing these awesome things. Knees, sweet poses.
Oh, silly Grandpa George!
Then she started eating!! Such a change. Preparation, messes, and stinky poops. But she LOVES eating, so it's all worth it.
It's AMAZING how, in just a few weeks, she's gone from scooping and shoveling to pinching and grasping. The dexterity improves so fast! Better to eat all the food!
We went to a concert at the Shawseoli's house. We couldn't get Everett and Remi to dance like Rosa.
Everett insisted we sit and watch the concert. Brian went to get food or a drink or something, got held up talking to friends, and Everett was freaking out. "The concert!!"
She started doing this little side pose, so funny. She's already been doing the growly, nose wrinkle face. She's actually pretty much stopped that now, early October.
Everett and Lydia are pretty cute when they're not trying to hurt each other. Well, they're pretty cute when they're trying to hurt each other too.
Why fill up the tub when there's a kitchen sink?!? Strangely, I don't think E was ever bathed in a kitchen sink.
They're so expressive. Confused by us. Confused by each other.
Here's the back side of the side pose. What a kid!
Speaking of what a kid. What a musical kid!! She loves banging on the little piano! Jam session!!
Brother gets in on the jam sessions too.
The big news from this month. We went on "an adventure," as Everett called it, to the Bay Area to attend Grace and Jake's wedding on September 15th. Although stressful with kids, kids' stuff, nap schedules, etc., it was very fun.
We stayed in a hotel with a pool, ate pizza and watched TV in our room, visited Will and Malia in Oakland, and rode a little train and had lunch at a forest golf course with Cousin Bob!
Oh yeah! And then we went to a wedding!! A very cool wedding. We're very happy for Grace and Jake. Everett thought they looked like Ken and Barbie (I'll remind you that his Ken and Barbie were dressed as a bride and groom when we stole them from my parents' house).
We had a great time with friends, like Darby and Katherine (Everett: "where's Eloise?" She was at her grandma's house)
In the "finally" category. Lydia FINALLY got to ride in a shopping cart! When we shop as a family, Everett is usually in the cart and she gets to be in the carrier. But now that he's in school, we shop without him sometimes. Fun!!
Also, we FINALLY got the mobile we made for E up for L. She loves it, and it sometimes keeps her from flipping over on her changing table, not always.
More family music! Gion had asked me for a good shot of the two of them. Another photoshoot!! My parents were over when I did this, lots of hands and help. (he was singing "whip my hair back and forth" --Jimmy Fallon/Neil Young version)
Funky foot solo!!
Pictures of the kids eating! Everett's tired of getting his picture taken. Lydia just LOVES blueberries!!
Lydia's pulling herself up on everything lately. She still hasn't sat up unassisted, but she will pull herself up (sometimes to knees, sometimes to standing), and she can sit up from there. Here she is pulling herself up on the couch and brother encouraging her.
What happens when you put a 7-month-old on a table with a bowl of BBQ sauce? She's been teething a lot lately and having trouble sleeping. A couple times she's decided to take her nap on me, makes me feel like I have a pregnant belly again, but then I get to put her down or pass her off, can't do that when you're pregnant.
We've started up play dates again. It's SO NICE! With Everett in Preschool, I don't have the desperate need to find him playmates, but I was missing my friends, and he was missing these particular friends. I hope we can keep it up.
Speaking of preschool. It's going well. I think. He doesn't talk much about his days. He's doing the normal kid thing of keeping it together at school then taking it out on us in the afternoon. But things are getting better, and we're all getting used to the schedule.
We have pets!! Very temporary pets. Grandpa George shared some of his monarch caterpillars with us. One actually escaped (I found it). But we got to watch them change into cocoons (we actually saw the escapee wiggling around and transforming). It's pretty exciting.
Lydia likes playing outside, although I think she's looking forward to the time when she won't need to be penned up.
"Everett: well, I don't like bell peppers, or shrimps, and my favorite color is not white, it's azul."
"I had to buy E a few clothing items recently, and for the first time I actually bought based on his taste instead of what I thought was cute or cool or gender neutral. We were getting ready for preschool yesterday, and I thought I'd get him excited 'look! New blue shoes and a blue shirt!' 'No, this is dark blue. MEDIUM blue is my favorite color.' Oh boy . . ."
"Everett: 'he has red eyes, like Santa'"
"Everett: Where does *God* live?
Me: Where did you hear about God?
Everett: From a book.
Me: Where do you think God lives?
Everett: In Africa.
"Biggest difference going from one to two? Two words: choking hazards"
So much fun! Until next month!
